Getting started

Four steps, in order. Each one has to complete before the next becomes available.

  1. 1. Connect Google

About ten seconds. Google asks you to approve two things: a spreadsheet permission, and your account's name and email so Syncline can show which account is connected. On Google's consent screen, tick the checkbox for full Drive file-creation access — it reads oddly broad but is scoped by Google to files the app itself creates, and it's unchecked by default. Skipping it is the most common reason this step doesn't complete.

  2. 2. Create your spreadsheet

Name it, and Syncline creates it directly in your Google Drive. It belongs to you from the moment it's created — nothing about deleting or disconnecting Syncline later removes it.

  3. 3. Choose your columns

Tick which fields to include, drag them into the order you want, and set each one's sync direction. Saving this step triggers the first export automatically, which writes your existing catalogue into the sheet and is what marks this step done.

  4. 4. Live sync

Arms itself automatically once the first export finishes — there's nothing separate to turn on. From here, an edit in Shopify reaches the sheet on its own, and an edit in the sheet reaches Shopify within seconds, carried by a live notification from Google. A scheduled check every fifteen minutes is the fallback if a notification is ever missed.

What happens if you stop partway

Setup state isn't a stored progress flag — it's derived from what actually exists. Disconnect Google and reconnect later, and Syncline picks up wherever the real state says you are, rather than replaying steps you've already finished or hiding ones you haven't.
